Chris Kongo believes that a knockout victory over Sebastian Formella, who fought Conor Benn, will send shockwaves through the welterweight division.
On June 11, London’s Chris Kongo will fight Germany’s Formella at Wembley’s OVO Arena on Richard Riakporhe’s IBF cruiserweight eliminator’s undercard against Fabio Turchi.
Formella (23-2) has only lost to Benn and former world champion Shawn Porter. Were unable to stop the Germans within the distance. However, the Bermondsey boxer is determined to exhibit his razor-sharp abilities and concussive punches.
“It would be a huge statement 100 percent,” Chris Kongo said.
“I watched the bout between Conor Benn and Porter. He pressed Conor Benn and hit him with some good strikes, but Benn recovered and was winning to me.”
Kongo will make his second appearance after signing a promotional deal with BOXXER in March when he returned from a year away from the ring to defeat Kelvin Dotel in a dominant performance at Wembley Arena.
The 29-year-old believes that defeating Formella will pave. The road to challenging some of the division’s elite fighters.
That would propel me up the ranks, all the way to world level,” Kongo continued.
“I want to continue the exercise, but I’m not far off (global level). As long as I can remain active and in condition and avoid injury, I want to push forward quickly.” You can also bet on the OKBET sportsbook to have a profit. Learn more.
