DeMar DeRozan and Jimmy Butler were nominated for the award, but De’Aaron Fox ultimately won.
On November 5th, the score in Orlando was tied. With less than five seconds remaining, De’Aaron Fox received the ball, dribbled four times, and shot from inside the midcourt line as time ran out.
For the victory, with a swish.
A game-winning play, one of several this season for the Sacramento guard. On Tuesday night, it was revealed that Fox had been voted the first-ever NBA clutch player of the year by the league’s 100 beat writers and broadcasters.
Jimmy Butler of Miami came in second, followed by DeMar DeRozan of Chicago in third.
You can’t be afraid to fail,” Fox stated on the TNT program. You can only expect to score some times, but I know I have the support of my teammates and coaches. My bare minimum is to trust my ability to shoot decent photographs.
As he beat out Stephen Curry for Rookie of the Year in 2014, Fox gave Sacramento its first individual award winner since Tyreke Evans in 2010. When the NBA announces its awards on Wednesday, it is widely predicted that Mike Brown will be named coach of the year, meaning the Kings won’t have to wait almost a decade for their next honor.
After being awarded the first winner of the Clutch Player of the Year in NBA, De’Aaron Fox has decided to join Inside the NBA
Fox, who had the most crucial points in league with 194, received 91 of 100 first-place votes and 460 of 500 total points. Although Butler received one first-place vote and 104 total points, DeRozan finished with 80 total points, only three more than New York’s Jalen Brunson, who came in at number four.
DeRozan and Butler ranked in the top three in the NBA for clutch scoring this season.
Fox scored 194 points in 39 games this season, which is “clutch time,” which is the final five minutes of regulation or overtime when the score is within 5 points. He had his best field goal percentage (53%) of the season in those instances.
In honor of the man who acquired the nickname “Mr. Clutch,” he is the inaugural winner of the Jerry West Trophy. The NBA revealed the clutch award in December. The media panel votes on the winner, but the media panel narrows the field of contenders by polling NBA coaches.

Fox was a big factor in Sacramento’s turnaround this year
The Sacramento Kings made the playoffs for the first time in 17 years, and they’re presently up 2-0 in their first-round playoffs series against the reigning champion Golden State Warriors of the Western Conference. Fox is leading the squad in scoring with 31 points per game in the playoffs. In addition, Sacramento’s 48-34 record was their best since they went 50-32 in 2004-05.
Fox claimed that his “teammates and team” were responsible for his success.
It was the league’s second major individual award this year.
On Monday, Memphis’ Jaren Jackson Jr. was named the best defender in the league. Sixth Man of the Year will be called on Thursday (Boston’s Malcolm Brogdon, Milwaukee’s Bobby Portis Jr., or New York’s Immanuel Quickley), and Coach of the Year will be announced on Wednesday.
Other league honors, such as MVP, Most Improved Player, and Rookie of the Year, have yet to be announced.
