At some point during Thursday night’s portion of the NBA Draft, it finally sunk in for the Chicago Bulls that they won’t have point guard Lonzo Ball for the whole 2023-2024 season.
It was verified by Artas Karniovas, the president of basketball operations for the Chicago Bulls, that the franchise does not anticipate Lonzo Ball to participate in the forthcoming season.
Devastating Blow for Bulls as Lonzo Ball Expected to Miss Entire 2023-24 Season
Even if it comes as a complete shock to the Bulls, the news will surely be quite upsetting for them. Many people feared that because Ball had undergone a third operation on his left knee in March, this time a cartilage transplant, he would be out for most or all of the upcoming season.
It was stated that following Ball’s second surgery in September of this past year, he could not run or leap, which most likely led to his undergoing a third operation.
Lonzo Ball’s Absence Puts the Bulls in Turmoil as Uncertainty Looms
Since he sustained a meniscus injury on January 14, 2022, forcing him to undergo surgery. Ball has not played basketball since that day. After playing only 35 games during the 2021-2022 season, the Bulls decided to bench Ball for the remainder of the year. After being traded to the Chicago Bulls from the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for four years and $80 million, he finished his debut season with the Bulls averaging 13 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game.
Because there are so many doubts about the Bulls’ team this year, they will be forced to continue playing without Lonzo Ball. Speculation over a potential trade involving Zach LaVine will almost certainly return, especially in light of recent claims that LaVine wasn’t getting along with the team’s front office or fellow star DeMar DeRozan. These reports came in December of this past year.
